Location

On the Frontignan-La Peyrade industrial estate, covering an area of over 70 hectares.

Type of activity
Liquid and liquefied hydrocarbons depot.
It receives, stores and distributes fuel oils and propane gas over a 20 km range.History
When the MOBIL refinery closed in 1986, the site remained as a storage depot with facilities to load tanker lorries and rail wagons.
Over the years, it was altered and modernized in line with regulations and new technologies.
Originally managed by MOBIL, it was taken over by BP when the two companies merged in 1997.

Staff
The staff team is made up of one woman and fifteen men carrying out either one or two jobs.
Staff are trained either directly by BP France or by outside organizations. This training means that staff maintain the highest level of professional competence.
All staff live in nearby villages.

Facilities and products
The Frontignan depot holds stocks of 4-star, Unleaded, Diesel and fuel oil.
It has a total storage capacity of 900 000 m3 split between 25 tanks.

Safety: Human and material resources
The rules of the establishment contain a large number of safety issues to avoid fire and explosion.

- Access is regulated and monitored

- Construction and use of installations must be in line with current regulations and are inspected by D.R.I.R.E.

- Installations are regularly inspected by approved organizations

- Work carried out by outside companies is covered by a plan that ensures the safety of those outside companies and the safety of the site.

Fire prevention
The depot has a large stock of specialist equipment to fight fire: water cannons, fire hoses, ‘crowns’ on some tanks, an unending supply of water (Rhone-Sète canal), a stock of emulsifier, extinguishers, etc.
This equipment is tested regularly by the staff, sometimes in the presence of the Fire Brigade.
In addition, staff receive special training in dealing with real fires.

Protection and the environment
Storage ponds have been built around each fuel tank to help prevent any fires from spreading; they also help to avoid environmental pollution by containing spillage caused by extinguishing a fire.
